A movin' and a shakin'

It is official, I have two mobile babies!! Jack has learned to crawl forward and is working on pulling himself up to stand. Maggie is starting to move around holding onto things more, and she finds the strangest things to stand on and around. Our house is now a full prison. We have 4 baby gates up at the stairs. Maggie has learned to stand up at the gate and shake it while she waits for someone to return. Things are certainly getting fun around here!

Earlier in the day she literally crashed while playing

Jack crawled under the bouncer and then behind it. He was very proud of himself!

The many faces of Magpie

11 Months Old!!

11 Months Old!!

This has by far been the biggest month of changes and learning new things!

Maggie 11 Months Old

Maggie is everywhere! She is a crawling champ. She can climb the stairs in less than a minute. She can pull herself up to stand and is learning to walk around holding onto things. She waves hello (at everything and everyone) and has just about figured out waving bye-bye. She can say all sorts of things; Dadda, Mamma, Bye, Ba (bottle and/or bath), Doggy (I think she is learning to say Wilma- Wi), Wa (walk) and tons of other babbles that haven't formed into anything yet. She loves to sing and roll her tongue; she truly is our little Magpie.

Jack 11 Months Old

Jack is just about crawling forward, but very slowly. He wants to pull up to stand, currently he can only get up on his knees. He loves to stand at things though and knows how to get down. He says Hey, especially to Daddy on the phone. He can also say Dadda, Mamma, Doggy, Back (which I think is his way of learning Jack) and has really started babbling a lot! He enjoys playing independently and stealing his sister's pacifier. He is a sweet little man, gives hugs and cuddles up with mommy when he is tired. His smile...just the best!

Both kiddos are learning to eat a more complex diet. Jack will eat chunkier baby foods and munch them down, but Maggie is only interested in chunky foods if she can feed herself. She can eat puffs, french fries, mashed potatoes, etc., but won't take anything with substance from a spoon. Hopefully she'll be ready for bigger foods soon, right now she still doesn't munch enough and chokes, so we can't really move onto much finger foods. Jack really enjoys any foods I put in his netted holder. He will eat his and his sister's lunch sometimes!

I am in full 1st Birthday party planning mode! The invites are addressed and ready for the mail and I've been working on their slide show. It will be so much fun to celebrate their big day with all of our family and friends next month!

Bedtime

Night two of Maggie's bed time scream fest! With Maggie's recent mobility she has been on the difficult side of bed time. With nothing else to possibly do for her, we had to resort to letting her "cry it out". Breaks my heart, actually brings tears to my eyes, but it is all we can think of to do. Last night she woke her brother with her screaming, luckily tonight she didn't. She might be getting her own room soon though.

I'm tired. An episode of True Blood, the rest of my Evan & Coke (thanks Mike V) and then bed.

Crawling, scooting, climbing, standing, oh my!

The kids are everywhere these days! Jack woke Saturday morning and he was completely back to himself, you'd never know he ever had surgery. He learned over night how to pull himself up onto his knees and he is close to pulling himself up to stand. He is getting up on his hands and knees and can crawl, but only in reverse. The poor guy gets so frustrated because he can't seem to get the hang of going forward, but when he does I can see him really moving out. Aside from that he is a rolling machine and can scoot while sitting on the hardwood floor upstairs, which is really funny to watch.

Maggie, oh Maggie! Not only is Maggie crawling, she is climbing onto everything and everyone! She pulls herself into my lap all the time now, especially if I'm holding her brother. She can climb the stairs and can pull herself up to stand at pretty much everything. She hasn't quite figured out the foot work yet, so a lot of time she ends up leaning, but I think she'll figure it all out pretty soon and I can see her taking some steps within the next couple of weeks. Brian is currently putting the bumpers on our fireplace mantel for the kids' protection since they are now up and in the head smacking stage. Additionally a baby gate is going up at the top of the stairs in the kitchen, so they can boogie around up there with us.

So much has really changed in just this last month, I can't wait to see what the next month will hold!

Jack is on the mend

Jack had his surgery today and it went very well. The technical procedure was "repair hidden penis" and "repair bilateral hernias". Basically he was re-circumcised and his fluid hernias were repaired. Despite our intubation fears, he went through surgery without a hitch and is now sleeping peacefully. The poor guy is still feeling out of sorts, but he is on a good combo of Tylenol and Motrin, so with some sleep and extra hugs he should be feeling back to normal within a few days. Unfortunately he can't have a tub bath for 5 days and no jumperoo for close to 3 weeks. He doesn't have any sutures to be removed, which is nice and although the area is tender and swollen, his diaper helps protect it so he can move around freely. We see the doctor Monday morning because of some swelling concerns, but otherwise all is good.

Maggie enjoyed her alone time with Granny and Gramps. Looks like she might get another night with them, depending on how Jack is feeling when he wakes up from his long nap. Could be a long night of cuddles or he could be Happy Jack and all smiles.
